Tunneling closer to the finish: Six miles of caverns bored out deep beneath New York's streets in America's biggest transport project
As the latest photo update from MTA shows, East Side Access, the huge $8 billion civil engineering project beneath New York City is well underway and the six miles of new tunneling are almost complete. The new LIRR line into Grand Central Terminal should be accepting paying passengers by 2019.
